GCMA Chilterns and Home Countries

2021 AGM Minutes

Minutes of the Chilterns and Home Counties 2021AGM Meeting.

Due to Covid 19 restrictions this was held on Zoom

Monday 15th March 2021

Captain Paul Keen offered a warm welcome to all the attendees

The Captain asked David Cook Regional Manager to commence the Chiltern and Home Counties 2021 Annual General Meeting.

Apologies for absence- DC reported that he had received 31 apologies for absence.

Approval of the 2020 AGM minutes – Proposed Ray Grant and seconded by Niki Hunter.

The Captain gave an overview of his year in Captaincy:

Well, what a year!!

We sat at Woburn all looking forward to a great season ahead, with a tinge of uncertainty of something called Covid. Even our Regional Manager was slightly sceptical of this recently newfound flu!!

Who would have thought a year later golf courses would still be shut, our clubhouses empty & desolate for months with no functions or parties for a very long time?

Unfortunately, we did lose a valued member and friend to many due, to the virus & although not the right drink due to the time of day I would like us to raise a glass or cup to Michael Gotlieb.

We have had some fleeting moments of good times together, as mentioned the AGM at Woburn which was well attended & a great day.

Many events were then lost to restrictions, but we also managed to get our autumn meeting off the ground at the fantastic Hadley Wood which was a very different meeting where we bounced ideas off each other, and lots was gained from it.

Thanks to David Jackson for working a way of being able to host the day for us.

As expected, both David Spring & Mark Bierton went home empty handed from both events.

Looking back on our matches against other regions, following on from Ray’s dismal record the year before I am pleased to report we remained unbeaten all season.

Hopefully, we can repeat this feat this season, albeit with a few more matches played.

I know David will be arranging team availability over the next few weeks & we hope to field strong teams at some very good venues.

Looking back at positive situations, out WhatsApp group has been invaluable in enabling us to bounce ideas off each other & support each other through such tough stressful times.

It has really shown what a beneficial organisation the GCMA is. Many of us knew each other already and were friends but the group has solidified that as well as helping new friendships that will last a long time.

The biggest positive to come from Covid has been the resurgence in the demand for golf.

Memberships booming, some of us full & demand for visitors soaring.

It has given the industry the chance to hit the reset button, mainly in terms of pricing where we should collectively hold firm on newly yielded pricing in all segments & resist the temptation to ever go back to crazily priced cheap rated golf with the discount culture that had riddled the industry.

Let us focus on giving great value for money coupled with great service over attracting people based upon price alone.

A massive thank you to David Cook for his unwavering support during the most challenging of years, as well as the rest of the committee for their support too.

Finally, I wish everyone a very successful reopening next week & season ahead & I look forward to hopefully seeing you all in person at events during the year & that we can all look forward to happier times.
