Read about Captains Invitation Day

With all the I s dotted and the T s crossed the attention to detail all in place what could possibly go wrong at the Captain's Invitation Day at Verulam Golf Club, well, the Captain sadly couldn't attend!

Our Captain has worked very hard to make his day very successful but a member of his family was diagnosed with the Covid Virus and therefore, Paul needed to isolate. However, in Pauls fighting spirit he declared that the show must go on and asked the Vice-Captain, Stephen Bryan and Pauls Deputy, Richard Stillwell to step in which they did admirably.

Some forty Managers and their guests descended onto the Club and were treated to a welcome and fulfilling brunch accompanied with Bucks Fizz supplied by one of our sponsors EQUITY.

With the weather on our side boarding on warm to hot, we teed off to enjoy the challenge of the  well-presented course.

At a sweltering half way point we were met by Mario and his ice cream van which was greatly appreciated as were the cold drinks selection on offer close by.

The sight of the 18th hole was welcoming to complete the round and join our friends and colleagues on the patio for a well earnt pre dinner drink, supplied by Cellar Door Wine suppliers.

Still within some Covid restrictions, no change was required for dinner and we in part reluctantly gave up our very comfy patio seating to make our way into the dining room where we were greeted by the most succulent buffet we could have imagined. There was a wide selection of meats, lobster and sea food accompanied by a abundance of salads and side dishes.

The Chef and his team had really excelled themselves:

There were numerous prizes from the golf and the winners on the day were as follows.

In 1st place with 45 points - John Rowan and John Losi  - Verulam GC.

Following the presentations, we were treated to some great entertainment supplied by Sing Out Sister who got us all singing along and joining in

There was even some socially distance feet shuffling took place as dancing was still not allowed.

A great day was had by all and the Captain in his absence, would be very proud of his team and their presentation of the Club. We would particularly like to thank Richard Stillwell, Chef, Chris Carpenter Course Manager, Joel Saunders Head Professional and Nick who was on hand all day and provided a high level of service throughout.

We would also like to thank our sponsors, Penney from Cellar Door Wines and Alex from Equity who have been very generous with their support.

On a final note, here is the Vice-Captain receiving his prize from the Spring Meeting following a recalculation of scores which showed that Stephen came third on that day and is seen gratefully receiving a bottle of Liebfraumilch - one of his favourites we understand.
